Shaving problems strike young men - 12 January 2012
Skin irritation deters young men from shaving
Research has revealed that young men suffer most from skin irritation from shaving, with 50% reporting skin problems.
It isn't a problem confined to young men, however, with 27% of men aged between 55 and 64 also complaining of razor burn and bumps.
The research found that younger men don't shave as often as older men and 42% put it off as long as possible – perhaps because they have so many shaving problems. There was also greater acceptance of facial hair as being smart amongst younger men.
A Mintel spokesperson said: “When it comes to shaving, there is a distinct generational divide between the young and the old, with younger Brits adopting a more relaxed attitude towards shaving compared to the older, more traditional approach, and to shave everyday is no longer seen as essential to look well groomed.
Moreover, one of the reasons why younger men are unwilling to shave may be razor burns due to their more sensitive skin.”
