If you normally tend to be sensitive to men’s deodorants, suffering red, itchy, irritated or stinging armpits, you may well find that Organic Homme deodorants are more suited to your skin.

There are three sources of irritation in popular men’s deodorants which are the reason behind most allergies.

Aluminium chlorohydrate
The first is aluminium chlorohydrate (or aluminium zirconium chlorohydrate), which in fact is used in antiperspirants rather than deodorants. It is this ingredient which stops you sweating.

It works by reacting with the protein molecules present in perspiration, entering the pores in your skin and turning into a gel. This blocks the pores and stops sweat from being secreted.

These ingredients are known to cause contact dermatitis in people with sensitive skin and have also been linked with other health risks.

Synthetic fragrances
Another ingredient commonly found in men’s deodorants which can cause a reaction is the fragrance. Many men’s deodorants are strong scented with artificial fragrances.

This can be a mix of hundreds of different synthetic chemicals – but are listed as just “fragrance” or “parfum” on the ingredients list on the bottle. This makes it almost impossible for you to find out which fragrance chemicals you react to.

Ethyl alcohol
The last ingredient used in men’s deodorants which can cause sensitivity is Ethyl alcohol. This strong irritant is often added to deodorants but can be drying to the delicate skin on your underarm and may lead to reactions in men.
